Opened in March 2010, Park Plaza Westminster Bridge was designed by BUJ architects, Uri Blumenthal architects and Digital Space, and was built on the site of the County Hall Island Block, an annex of London County Hall, that was demolished in 2006. The building, previously known as No 1 Westminster Bridge Road, had been disused since 1986 and had become derelict, being voted one of the ugliest buildings in the UK. Demolition of the old building commenced in May 2006, and with the construction of the hotel, the landscape on this side of the river would change forever. Spanning 20 floors in total (16 above ground, 4 below), the hotel offers 1019 guestrooms, 4 restaurants and bars, and covers 68,000 sqm, of which 2,700 sqm is dedicated conference and event space. The hotel was the vision of Eli Papouchado, who was the innovative driving force behind the hotel, making it the outstanding hotel it is today. Part of the PPHE Hotel Group, Park Plaza Westminster Bridge sits proudly on the South Bank in London, and is one of 10 Park Plaza hotels in the UK.
